The patronal festival (St.George’s day, 23rd April) in 2005 was the occasion of the first ‘Great Dragon Hunt’ in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of St. George’s Chaplaincy.
It proved rather more successful than we anticipated, so you can now do the hunt on any day by contacting the Chaplain.
Tel.(+39 Italy) O41 520 0571.
The hunt involves finding a number of images (reliefs on buildings and paintings) scattered all over Venice, of St. George and the Dragon,

St George & The Dragon
introducing you to a little history and some hidden corners. It allows opportunity for tasting gelati, pizze, etc.and taking the gondola ferry across the Grand Canal, an inexpensive way of having a gondola ride. For your €10 contribution to our 400 th Anniversary Appeal (or of course more, if you feel like it!) we provide you with a map and booklet of information which give the set of routes and transport instructions. As you find the ‘dragons’, you have to verify each one by answering one or two questions.
The hunt provides a way of seeing Venice from a different angle, is fun for the young and energetic, can be as long or brief as you wish and helps the 400th Anniversary Appeal by your contribution of €10 or more.
As well as the challenge to find the ‘lost dragon’ (still at large) and claim the special prize, you can, on return to St. George’s Church with your verified sheet, get a fine Venetian certificate recording your achievement.
