This was what happened on 27th April, in the words of one of our members who e-mailed afterwards: "That was the most amazing meeting!   The excitement and enthusiasm were incredible ."

It was the Annual Meeting we held after our joint Chaplaincy Service (Venice and Padova together), and indeed, it was richly blessed, but I couldn't really have put 'Annual Meeting' as the title of this, or you wouldn't have bothered to open it!

400th Appeal - Fundraising for stage 3

 St. George’s Day     Wednesday, 23rd April, 2008

22nd April. I 'm sorry to all readers (assuming there are any!) for my long silence on the blog - Preparations leading to Holy Week and Easter overwhelmed me. We had splendid celebrations for Palm Sunday and then for Easter at Venice on Easter Day, at Padova the following Sunday (30th March) and at Trieste only last Sunday, 20th April. All told, over 220 people attended; Venice became host to an extra 40 lovely people on tour from the US, as well as our usual 100+.

Sunday 24th February was special in three ways - well, Sunday is always special! three MORE ways:

1. A FIRST AT ST. GEORGE'S! we were able to provide HOT TEA and coffee with the refreshments after the Sunday service. It was a chilly day so this was very popular, and refreshment-time went on longer than the service itself!

The Spring Alpha Course started after Easter, every Wednesday at 7.30pm. for 10 weeks. The course is being given in English and Italian.

We meet at a flat in central Mestre by the very kind hospitality of Ian, one of the course members. Each evening consists of Supper, a talk on the basics of the Christian faith, and discussion. It's a small, friendly group so guests feel free to put in their own opinions, or to ask anything they don't understand.

The draw took place on St. George's Day, Sunday, 23rd April 2006 after the morning service. The quilt was won by Marlene Klein with the winning ticket number, B8.

The quilt raffle raised 1,000 Euros for the 400th Anniversary Appeal. Thank you Susie for your gift.

This quilt was specially made by a member of the congregation, to raffle for the St. George's 400th Anniversary Appeal.

Susan was born in the USA and has used her artistic talents to create this wonderful, traditional American bedspread. She says,

The patronal festival (St.George’s day, 23rd April) in 2005 was the occasion of the first ‘Great Dragon Hunt’ in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of St. George’s Chaplaincy.

It proved rather more successful than we anticipated, so you can now do the hunt on any day by contacting the Chaplain.
Tel.(+39 Italy) O41 520 0571.

The hunt involves finding a number of images (reliefs on buildings and paintings) scattered all over Venice, of St. George and the Dragon,
